A Monessen man waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday on charges that he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old child.

Jose Salvador Cortes, 25, of 226 Oneida St., is charged with 12 counts each of indecent assault on a person under the age of 13, 12 counts of indecent exposure and two counts each of statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child.

The acts allegedly occurred at a home in West Pike Run Township over several days in March.

Magisterial District Judge Curtis Thompson reduced the bond for Cortes from $250,000 to $75,000. Cortes remains in the Washington County Prison unable to post bond.
