Man charged in alleged 2012 assault of child
A man was charged Monday for the alleged indecent assault of a child.
Matthew Bibel, 27, of Scottdale, allegedly touched the girl inappropriately when she was at his house in Upper Tyrone Township in March 2012.
Police did not release the age of the child.
Police arranged an interview between the child and Sara L. Gluzman, MS, a child development specialist, Feb. 10 in Pittsburgh. The girl allegedly told Gluzman that she was at Bibel’s house when she went to take a shower and could not operate the knobs, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The alleged victim said she asked Bibel for help turning on the water. She said he turned on the water and left, then returned to the bathroom when she was naked. She said he touched her inappropriately.
Later that night, he allegedly got into her bed, undressed, and attempted to make her touch his genitals, according to the affidavit.
“At this point in the forensic interview, the victim could not go any further and would not provide any more details on the incident stating she was scared of Matthew,” the affidavit said.
Gluzman recommended therapy for the girl, and planned to interview her again in six months.
Bibel is charged with indecent assault by forcible compulsion, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age and corruption of minors.
He is lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $100,000 bond set by Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Jeffries.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 2.
