Preston E. Altizer, age 93, of Hopwood, Pa., passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at his home.

He was born on Saturday, December 31, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio son of Preston E. and Virginia (Wilson) Altizer.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Wilson Altizer; and two sisters, Dorothy Altizer and Eleanor Glover.

Surviving are his loving wife of 71 years, Irene (Mitchener) Altizer; two daughters: Carl Burkey and husband Rand of Ohio and Lynn Abraham of Hopwood, Pa.; grandchildren: Amy Cummings and husband David of Smithfield, Pa., Timothy Abraham and wife Jan of Salisbury, Pa., David Dubbs and wife Holly of Tennessee, Kristen Scaricich and husband Rob of Ohio; great grandchildren: Timothy Abraham and Emily Abraham both of Salisbury, Pa., Crew Dubbs of Tennessee, Ryan Cummings and Cody Cummings both of Smithfield, Pa., Andrew Scaricich and Andrew Scaricich both of Ohio.

Preston was married to Irene on Tuesday, September 5, 1944 in the Hopwood United Methodist Church where he was a member and served in many offices and was a member of the choir.

He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 in the Medical Corps where he rode the Hospital trains.

He graduated from South Union High School, Class of 1940, where he was a member of the band and also the orchestra.

He worked at Martin’s Bakery and at Metzler’s Department Store both in Uniontown, Pa., and was a United States Postal Worker as a Rural Carrier in Hopwood.

Preston loved to sing! He sang with different people of the church.

He was an avid golfer, scoring two holes in one. He was a member of the Fayette County Senior League, the Spring dale Golf Club and also Duck Hollow where he made many friends.

He was also a member of the Hardly Abel Construction Company with dear friends Williard Abraham and Cloyd VanSickle.

Friends will be received in DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, Pa., today, January 3, 2016 from Noon to 4 and 6 to 8.

Visitation will continue on Monday, January 4, 2016 in the HOPWOOD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH from 10 until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with Rev. Diane Olson and Rev. Randy Costolo officiating.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Brownfield, Pa., where Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, Pa.
