Dorothy Frances (Swartz) Vogel
Dorothy Frances (Swartz) Vogel of Montgomery County, Pa., formerly of Newell, Pa., passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 at the age of 93.
Born in Allenport, Pa., to Andrew and Mary Swartz, Dorothy grew up with her three sisters Margaret, Pauline, and Ellen, all of whom precede her in death.
As a newlywed, Dorothy moved to a house on the road to Newell, where she lived for most of the rest of her life.
Dorothy was a member of the Newell United Methodist Church for more than 70 years.
She loved flowers and always kept a garden.
She was an avid bowler, switching to Wii bowling in later years.
For many years, she volunteered at the Monessen Public Library and as a Tutor in the Literacy Society of Westmoreland County.
Later in life, she volunteered as a Cashier in the store at her residence.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Regis Vogel; her son, Frederick Wayne Vogel; and her son-in-law, Fredrick Kiviat.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Kiviat, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Vogel; grand children: Timothy Vogel (wife Andrea), Eric Vogel (wife Belinda), Brad Vogel, Allison Picinotti (husband Tony), and Barbara Kiviat. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; devoted cousin, Robert Smith; several nieces and nephews; and many other cousins.
Family will welcome visitors at the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME, 334 Main Street, Fayette City, PA 15438. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. and the Funeral Service will be on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Monessen, Pa.
