Greene County Commissioners, county boards reorganize
WAYNESBURG — Blair Zimmerman was elected chairman of the Greene County commissioners during the board’s reorganization meeting Monday.
Dave Coder, who returned to the board after a five-year absence, was elected vice chairman, and Archie Trader, the Republican minority commissioner, was elected secretary.
Jeff Marshall, chief clerk, was reappointed as were Harry Cancelmi, public defender; Cheryl Cowen, county solicitor; Widmer Engineering, bridge engineers, and EADS Architects Inc., building engineer.
Coder served as commissioner from 1996 to 2010, before stepping away to become district director to former U.S. Rep. Mark Critz. In the 2015 Democratic primary for commissioner, Coder narrowly defeated incumbent Chuck Morris for one of the two Democratic nominations, and then he went on to win in November, as did Zimmerman and Trader.
Meanwhile, Zimmerman said he was “humbled to be in this position,” as he prepared to convene reorganization meetings of several other county boards.
Zimmerman was elected chairman of the county salary board, retirement board, sinking fund board, assessment board and election board. Coder was elected vice chairman of the salary board, retirement board, assessment board and election board and secretary of the prison board.
Trader was elected chairman of the prison board and secretary of the assessment and election boards.
County Controller Dave Balint was elected vice chairman of the sinking fund board and secretary of the of the salary and retirement boards.
Finally, Treasurer Cory Grandel was elected secretary of the sinking fund board, and Sheriff Brian Tennant was elected vice chairman of the prison board.
