Students board buses to leave Laurel Highlands Middle School after a reported bomb threat Tuesday morning.

A bomb threat was reported this morning at Laurel Highlands Middle School.

State police Trooper Stefani Lucas said the threat was called into the school.

District Superintendent Jesse Wallace said the threat led district personnel to believe the safety of the students, faculty and staff were at risk. Wallace said students’ parents were notified via the school’s “Alert Now” system.

He said parents can pick students up from Laurel Highlands High School, and those who are not picked up will follow their regular dismissal schedule.

Students at the South Union Township school were moved to the gymnasium around 10 a.m., and began leaving the building around 10:15 a.m. when buses arrived.

As of 10:40 a.m., all students and personnel were removed from the building and sent to the high school.

Around 11 a.m., a state police K-9 started sweeping the building.

State police, Fayette EMS and the township volunteer fire department are at the building on Hookton Avenue.
