Laurel Highlands bomb threat one of many in region

By Alyssa Choiniere achoiniere@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A bomb threat called into the Laurel Highlands Middle School Tuesday morning was one of many threats called into schools in a two-day period.

The call came into the South Union Township middle school’s main office at 9:48 a.m., according to State police Cpl. John Marshall.

He said they are not releasing what the caller said or what the voice sounded like.

A call came in at about the same time in Washington County, at Washington Park Elementary School.

In Virginia and Maryland, a string of automated calls shut down more than a dozen schools on Monday and Tuesday.

Marshall could not confirm whether the call to the middle school was related.

The school was evacuated and children were sent home after parents were notified through an alert system.

State police determined the building was safe after a bomb dog sweep.

Marshall said a suspect has not yet been identified.
