Belle Vernon swimmers sweep road meet

The Belle Vernon swim team took to the road Thursday night in Section 5-AA action at Steel Valley, and returned home with a sweep as the boys defeated the Ironmen, 93-66, and the Lady Leps won a 90-61 decision.

Mackenzie Ursiny (200 freestyle, 200 backstroke), Sarah Callaway (200 IM), Maxine Brandt (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Hannah Staller (100 butterfly), and Brooke Dickey (500 freestyle) all had individual first-place finishes for Belle Vernon. The 200 freestyle relay of Ursiny, Staller, Brandt and Callaway was also victorious.

The Leopards’ David Mosco (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Noah Wiggins (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) finished first. The 200 medley relay (Lincoln Mimidis, Robby Spekis, Jon Susick, Mosco) and 200 freestyle relay (Wiggins, Tucker West, Susick, Mosco) also finished first.

Wiggins met the WPIAL qualifying time in his initial leg of the 200 freestyle relay.
