Elma Mae (Sliger) Ryan, R.N.
Elma Mae (Sliger) Ryan, R.N., Greenacres Florida and formerly of Uniontown, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, 27 January 2016.
Elma was born on Thursday, July 31, 1924 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Albert Sliger and Grace (Herring) Sliger.
Elma graduated from Uniontown High School Class of 1942 and the Uniontown Hospital of Nursing in 1945.
She was also a post graduate of Cook County Hospital in Pediatrics, Chicago, Illinois.
During World War II, she became a member of the United States Cadet Nurses Corps where she pledged service to her country in essential nursing for the duration of the war.
Her church affiliations include being a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Asbury Fellowship Sunday School Class.
At Asbury, she was a Sunday School Teacher grades I-II for 15 years; a member of the Asbury Hobby Group, the Altar Guild, and the Asbury Drama Team.
She is an Associate Member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Military Trail, West Palm Beach, Florida.
Fraternal organizations include: a Member of the Order of the Eastern Star Uniontown Chapter No. 263, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Margaret E. Caven Shrine No. 42. She served as Worthy High Priestess 1976-1977 and as Matron of the Junior Grange, Menallen Grange No. 1091.
She was a member of the Uniontown Service League.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Wilson Ryan in June 1997; a son, L. Winston Ryan in December 1971; and her only sibling, her sister Geraldine Dugan of Ohio.
She is survived by her son, Todd Ryan of Greenacres, Florida; one sister-in-law, Doris Weaver and husband Harry of Mississippi; one nephew, Clayton Dugan and wife Karen of Ohio; with nieces, nephews and one great grandniece.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pennsylvania where the family will receive friends on Friday January 29, from 4 until 7 p.m. and on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m followed by a Service Celebrating Elma’s Life at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Kephart officiating.
Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
