Joseph Cataneo
Joseph Cataneo of Brownsville, Pa., died at home Saturday, January 30, 2015 at the age of 90.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Antonio Cataneo and Giovanna (Congelio) Cataneo; and sisters, Theresa Summa and Ethel Charles.
He was a member of Jesus Fellowship Church and a long time member of the Brownsville Sons of Italy and the American Legion Post 295.
Joe served in the United States Army in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was also an accomplished musician and singer with the Debonairs.
He was employed by Furnco Construction Company as a Labor Superintendant until he retired in 1988.
Joe was passionate about his family as his favorite saying was ‘Sempre la Famiglia’ (The Family Always).
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia (Glass) Cataneo; son, Pastor Anthony Cataneo and wife Judy; daughters Cheryl Rohland and her husband Dr. Kirk Rohland, Vickie Peterson and her husband Frank, Lisa Drylie, and Gina Onesko and her husband Chuck; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Bevelaqua and Josephine Pascarelli.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa., on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., the hour of Service with his son, Pastor Anthony Cataneo, officiating.
Interment at Lafayette Memorial Park with Full Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 295, 940, 838 and 275.
The family would like to thank Fayette Home Care, especially his nurse Marty and the Hospice Team and his wonderful nurse Natalie, who affectionately called him Joe Joe. Also thanks to Carolyn Ashford for helping us care for our dad and special thank you to Sally Turner, who dad thought of as another daughter, for her care and dedication to our family throughout this last year.
The Sons of Italy Frank Ricco Lodge 731 will meet at the funeral home Monday evening at 7 p.m
