Rostraver approves complex contract
Renovations to the John DiVirgilio Sports Complex should begin later this month.
Wednesday night, the Rostraver Township Commissioners awarded a $239,299 contract to A. Folino Construction of Oakmont for the work. The improvements will involve handicap amenities, including accessible restrooms, parking and handicap ramps to the each of the fields at the complex. The parking will also be made handicap accessible.
It was the lowest of three bids opened by the township Monday.
The project is being funded by a Greenway, Trail and Recreation grant. The township provided a 10 percent match.
The work must be completed by the end of May.
The improvements come as the township complex prepares to be cast into the national spotlight. The Rostraver Youth Baseball Association will host the Pennsylvania Little League Baseball State Championship at the complex from July 23-31.
The winner of the tournament here will head to Bristol, Connecticut, for a chance to play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Aug. 18-28. Williamsport has hosted the Little League World Series since 1947.
Meanwhile, the supervisors approved installation of four Extenet wireless communication boosters in the township. The boosters will be installed on utility poles along Finley Road and Route 51.
Ronald Gainar, president of R2C Development Group, said the antennas will boost Internet signals for cell phones.
The boosters will be installed this summer. If they are successful, more may be installed.
In other news, the township amended its ordinance amending standards for raising chickens in planned residential developments.
