Loretta M. ‘Rett’ (Spinnenweber) Appel, age 83, of Fredericktown, Deemston Borough, Pa., died on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 in the Washington County Health Center.

She was born on Thursday, February 2nd, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pa., daughter of Edward Spinnenweber and Irene (Rogers) Spinnenweber.

Mrs. Appel was self-employed. She operated a Bed and Breakfast and also Valentine Farms specializing in organically raised poultry and vegetables for over 27 years, retiring in 1997.

She was an avid reader and also enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her family.

Loretta was the wife of Charles F. Appel Jr. He died on Friday, February 20, 2004.

Also deceased are a son, Charles F. “Monty” Appel III; her parents; her brother, Edward G. Spinnenweber; and her sisters, Vera Palko and Dolores “Tootie” Passieu Loretta was the last of her immediate family.

Surviving are three sons: Thomas Charles Appel Sr. (Susan) and George E. Appel (Kelly) both of Fredericktown, Pa., William E. Appel (Patricia) of Marianna, Pa.; daughter, Mary Jane Appel (Steve Hemlin) of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, March 5, 2016 in The Historic Church of Saint Peter, 304 Shaffner Avenue, Brownsville, Pa., with Rev. Father Timothy J. Kruthaupt as Celebrant.
