Police said an inmate escaped from Greene County Jail Sunday after he failed to return from a scheduled medical furlough.

Matthew Bartimus, 42, of Bethesda, Ohio, is 6-feet tall with brown hair and blue eyes, and weighs 230 pounds, police said.

According to an inmate database, Bartimus was lodged in the jail Sept. 21 and released just before 7 p.m. Sunday.

Bartimus was charged with theft and two counts of defiant trespass for an incident that allegedly occurred Aug. 11, according to court documents. In October, he was held for the Greene County Court of Common Pleas on those charges, the court documents said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call state police in Waynesburg at 724-627-6151.
