Elderly man dies from injuries sustained in Perry Twp. crash

An 86-year-old man died in the hospital Monday night after a two-vehicle crash in Perry Township, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed.

Francis Mizikar of Belle Vernon was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital, where he later died at about 8:30 p.m., officials said.

Joann Mizikar, 87, also of Belle Vernon, was also flown to the Pittsburgh hospital with serious injuries.

Police said driver Francis Mizikar was attempting to turn left onto Route 51 from Harmony Church Road when a van driving north collided with Mizikar’s pickup truck at about 4:30 p.m.

The van driver, David Jones Jr., 54, of Masontown, suffered minor injuries.

His passenger, Brian Jones, 31, also of Masontown, was not injured, according to police.
