Fire marshal called to investigate Uniontown fire

Uniontown fire department responded to a house fire at 8 Wilson Ave. Wednesday morning that displaced a woman and six children. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

A state police fire marshal was called to investigate a house fire in Uniontown that displaced a woman and her six children Wednesday morning.
Uniontown Fire Department Lt. Scott Conn said the 8 Wilson Ave. fire started in one of the children’s bedrooms upstairs at about 9:40 a.m.
Police believe a young child in the home may have accidentally started the fire.
Conn said the fire was extinguished within a few minutes and the majority of the damage was contained to the bedroom where the fire started and neighboring second-floor rooms.
“Everyone got out safe. That’s always the main thing,” he said.
Resident Angela Seehoffer said she was downstairs when the fire started.
“I just got the kids and ran out the door and called 911,” she said.
She has six children, ages 1 to 15. The two youngest sat on a car near their home, draped in oversized sweatshirts with stubby legs dangling over the trunk.
City code enforcement Officer Scott Chapple deemed the house uninhabitable. He said Seehoffer could go into the house during the day to gather belongings, but could not go inside at night.
Hopwood Volunteer Fire Department, Fayette EMS, Uniontown City Police Department and Fayette County Children & Youth Services also responded to the scene.
