Charges against a Monessen man accused of beating a man with a crowbar were waived for Westmoreland County Court Friday.

Dwayne “Peenie” Grogan, 45, appeared before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Dalfonso on charges that he allegedly beat his cousin, Allen Duncan, with a crowbar.

He was charged with aggravated and simple assault, robbery, reckless endangerment and theft in that case.

After the alleged attack on his cousin in September, police said Grogan searched Duncan’s pockets for money and fled. Duncan was later flown to the hospital.

The day after he allegedly beat Duncan, Grogan allegedly fled from police while intoxicated, going airborne in his vehicle and crashing it.

Grogan allegedly ran several stop lights and fled at speeds in excess of 70 to 80 miles per hour when police spotted him on the Charleroi-Monessen bridge.

After a brief foot pursuit, Grogan was taken into custody.

In that case, he was charged with fleeing police, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence of alcohol and cited for eight traffic violations. He also waived those charges to court on Friday.

Grogan is scheduled to appear in common pleas court for formal arraignment on both cases next month.
