Glenn Richard Scarlett
Glenn Richard ‘Papa’ Scarlett, 80, of Connellsville, also a longtime resident of Mentor, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his home, while surrounded and comforted by his loving family.
He was born December 26, 1935 in Mill Run, a son of the late Richard and Verna Elizabeth (Tissue) Scarlett.
Glenn was a graduate of the former South Union High School with the class of 1953. He also attended West Virginia University for 2 years.
He was a veteran and 2nd Class Fire Control Tech. in the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Macon 132 from 1955-58.
Prior to his retirement he worked as an Electrical Engineer for Bailey Controls in Wickliffe, Ohio for 37 years.
He was a member of the Eastgate Lodge No. 796 F&AM in Lyndhurst, Ohio and a member of the Bear Run Church of the Brethren.
Glenn was a avid sportsman and liked hunting, fishing, bowling, softball, and golfing.
He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving wife of 55 years, H. Marie Bryner Scarlett; his children, Jeffrey Glenn Scarlett, and Jerri Lynn Shultz and husband John, all of Mentor, Ohio; his grandchildren: Amanda Marie Valtman of Mentor, Ohio and James Richard ‘JR’ Valtman of Connellsville; his great granddaughter Alyvia Marie Hadesh; his niece Betsy Chisnell and husband George of Farmington; his nephews, Dick Taylor and wife Dot of Latrobe, and Will Scarlett and wife Candace of Ohiopyle, and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was predeceased by his sister Margaret Taylor and brother-in-law Merle Taylor, his brother William C. Scarlett, and his nephew Denny Taylor.
Friends and family will received friends Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville Pa. 15425 (724-628-1430) where a funeral service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Greg Pelc officiating.
A committal service with military rites conducted by the Valley VFW No. 12019 will follow in the Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery, Mill Run.
Also a Memorial Service will be held in Painesville, Ohio at a later date.
King Solomon’s Lodge No. 346 F&AM will conduct a service Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
The family requests that no flowers be sent. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Glenn R. Scarlett.
