Rebecca Devereaux|Herald-Standard State Police and North Union Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a hit-and-run Monday morning on Connellsville Street that killed a bicyclist.

A bicyclist was killed Monday morning after he was hit by a truck in a hit-and-run accident in North Union Township, officials said.

The Fayette County Coroner’s office identified the victim as Gary Lewellen, 47.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene.

Lewellen was hit in the 1400 block of Connellsville Street at about 10:15 a.m.

A firefighter performed CPR on the man and regained a faint pulse. He was transported to Uniontown Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead at 10:45 a.m.

State police said the suspect was driving a newer model white Dodge Ram.

They did not release any additional information on the suspect Monday afternoon.

A mangled bike lay in a lane of Connellsville Street while police investigated. A pedal and baseball cap lay several feet away, near the shoulder of the road.

About one mile of Connellsville Street from U.S. 119 was closed for several hours while state police investigated.

The crash occurred less than two miles from a second hit-and-run accident that occurred outside Smitty’s Bar on North Gallatin Avenue Extension Oct. 30.

Christina Glisan, 45, was killed when a pickup truck hit her and fled the scene.

Police identified the driver in the October accident as David Lee Lincoln, 47, of Lemont Furnace. He was charged with homicide by vehicle and related charges and lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
