Donald H. “Spike” Drews, United States Army Veteran
Donald H. Drews ‘Spike’, 81, Brownfield Pa., passed away Friday, November 4, 2016.
He was born January 6, 1935 in Uniontown, Pa. the son of Fred A. Drews and Eva Bloskey Drews.
Spike was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany.
He was a Coal Miner for many years with US Steel’s Maple Creek Mine until his retirement
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, the Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Uniontown and former member of the General
George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
Spike was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
His parents; wife, Dolores J. (Miller) Drews; infant sister, Jean Drews; brothers, Robert R. Drews Sr., Wallace J. Drews, James F. Drews; and a close nephew, Bobby Drews all preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children: Jane Hill and husband Larry Hill of Uniontown, Pa., Tracy Varndell and husband Robert Varndell Jr. ‘JR’, Uniontown, Pa.; grand children: Lawrence A. Hill, Jessica Dawn McKnight and husband Michael R. McKnight Jr., Alexis J. Varndell, Victoria N. Varndell and Kimber Varndell; great granddaughter, Dolores Darlene Varndell; sister, Linda Ringer and husband George Ringer; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite dog, Buffy.
The family will greet friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m and on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 until 10:00 a.m., the hour of Service. Reverend Kevin Anderson will officiate.
Interment follows in Mountain View Memorial Park, Brownfield, Pa., where Military Rites will be accorded by General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
