Michael D. Grego
Michael D. Grego, 63, of Connellsville (Dunbar Township), Pa., passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at his home, with his loving and devoted wife, Cindy, at his side.
He was born September 12, 1953 in Connellsville, Pa., son of Michael ‘Mickey’ and Angeline ‘Ange’ Orlando Grego of Vanderbilt, Pa.
Michael graduated from Connellsville Area High School with the class of 1971.
He had been a resident of Dunbar Township for the last 24 years.
He worked for SPK Engineering in Uniontown, Pa., and had formerly worked in the Fayette County Assessment Office for many years.
He was a member of Partner Parish of Saint Rita Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville.
Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially like playing dice and card games with them.
He was an avid reader of books, newspapers and magazines, and enjoyed older movies. Maybe this is one reason he was able to know the answers to many trivia questions. His friends would always comment about his ability to have the answer to trivia questions, especially obscure trivia that most people would not know.
Michael always had a very positive attitude, even while dealing with his sickness. He was always happy and it showed because when you would see him, he was always smiling and often whistling.
He was a loving husband, son, brother, and uncle to his family and a great friend to all that knew him.
In addition to his parents, Michael will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving and devoted wife Lucinda ‘Cindy’ Shaw Grego, with whom he would have celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary November 18, 2016; his sister, Valerie Grego of Scottdale, Pa.; his faithful and loving pet dog, ‘Boo Boo’; his sister-in-law, Sandra ‘Sandy’ Shaw DeSimone of Connellsville; his brother -in-law, Francis ‘Fran’ Shaw and wife Cynthia ‘Cindy’ of Dickerson Run, Pa.; his nephew, Michael Shaw of Dickerson Run, Pa.; his niece Danielle DeSimone Dunbar and husband Jason H. and their daughter Brynn M. Dunbar of Mount Airy, Maryland; several aunts and uncles; and many cousins and friends.
Michael was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Josephine Shaw; and his brother-in-law, Lou DeSimone.
The family gives special thanks to Excela Home Health and Hospice Care, Dr. Dai, nurses, and staff at UPMC Cancer Center and Radiation Oncology in Uniontown, Dr. Marsh and staff at the UPMC Montefiore Hospital, and to all the family and friends that gave support, positive thoughts and continued prayers during Michael’s battle with cancer.
Family and friends will be received today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 East Green St., Connellsville (724.628.1430) where a Blessing Service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m.
