A Star Junction man is in custody after he allegedly assaulted and threatened a man with a knife.

Police said Ronald Charles McPartland, 55, was drinking and talking with the alleged victim, Matthew Fafalios Wednesday evening at a home in Star Junction.

McPartland allegedly made comments about Fafalios’ recently deceased girlfriend, prompting him to leave. Police said McPartland allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife, between 10 and 12 inches long, and struck Fafalios in the face with the handle.

Fafalios was struck again with the blade, causing a deep cut in his face, police said. Fafalios left and later returned to McPartland’s home, police said, where McPartland allegedly threatened Fafalios and his mother who tried to intervene, saying “I’m going to kill you both.”

McPartland later told police he was upset with Fafalios because he didn’t pay for marijuana purchased several months ago. McPartland also denied swinging the knife, adding that Fafalios was “acting nuts and like an (expletive).

McPartland was charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats. He remains lodged in the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $300,000 bond.
