Adam Lewis Snyder Jr., Eldest member of the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department, United States Navy Veteran
Adam Lewis Snyder Jr. age 95, Masontown, Pa., passed away quietly at home on Thursday, November 17, 2016.
He was born on February 18, 1921 in Derry, Westmoreland County, Pa.
Adam was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Lewis Snyder Sr. and Irene M. (Mackey) Snyder; beloved wife, Violet ‘Vi’ Rosamond (Fike) Snyder; son-in-law, Lewis P. Ewart; and son-in-law, Danny Schiffbauer.
Adam was a member of Masontown First Presbyterian Church.
He was the eldest member of the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 651 F. & A.M. and the AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa.
During World War II, he proudly served his country with the United States Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations.
After 44 years, he retired from United States Steel Corporation.
Surviving are his daughters: Cindy Schiffbauer of Wellsburg West Virginia and Nancy Ewart of Martinsburg, Pa.; his grandchildren: Jennifer Sisinni and husband Frank, James Schiffbauer and wife Becky, Jeffrey Ewart and wife Erica, Jonathan Ewart and wife Lindsay, and Laura Ewart; and great grandchildren: Parker Schiffbauer and Everleigh Schiffbauer.
Friends will be received at the HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 515 North Main Street, Masontown, Pa., Monday, November 21, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.
Visitation shall also be held at the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 102 West Church Ave., Masontown on Tuesday, November 22, from Noon until 1:00 p.m., the hour of Service Reverend Joel Nogle will officiate.
Interment will follow at Jacob’s Lutheran Cemetery, Masontown, where Full Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584.
Masonic Services will be conducted by Lodge No. 651 F. & A.M. in the funeral home on Monday at 7:00 p.m. followed by Masontown Volunteer Fire Department Services for a Deceased Fireman at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Research Foundation or Hope Lodge of Hershey, Pa.
