A Smithton man died after his vehicle crashed into a telephone pole and then a tree off of State Route 981 Saturday evening.

Dennis Novak, 58 of Smithton died from impact around 6:30 p.m. according to police.

Police said Novak was traveling northbound on State Route 981 when he failed to make a left hand curve and traveled off of the shoulder where he hit and continued through a telephone pole then hit a tree before the vehicle came to a stop.

According to police the victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
