Olive R. Scarlett

Olive R. Scarlett, 89, of Mill Run, Pa. passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 at home with family by her side.

Olive was born April 19th, 1927 in Jones Mills, Pa., a daughter of the late Harry Jacob and Elsie Elizabeth Bryner Shaffer.

In addition to her parents, Olive is preceded in death by her husband William C. ‘Bill’ Scarlett, an infant brother Arthur, her brother Merle Shaffer, sisters: Edna Clark, Bertha Kalp, Cynthia Pritts, and Phyllis Krepps; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Merle Taylor and brother-in-law Glenn R. Scarlett.

Olive was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess, a first aid instructor with the American Red Cross, and a Den Leader for Ohiopyle Pack 1.

She enjoyed flower gardening, birdwatching, and baking wedding cakes and cookies.

Olive is survived by a son William E. ‘Will’ Scarlett and his wife Candace of Ohiopyle; a daughter Elizabeth S. ‘Betsy’ Chisnell and her husband George of Farmington; two grandsons, William E. (Wes) Scarlett and his wife JoAnna of LaPlata, Md. and David C. Scarlett and his girlfriend Paula Sova of Uniontown, Pa.; two great-grandsons, William L.J. Scarlett and Hunter Alan Scarlett of LaPlata, Md.; a step-grand-daughter, Jill Chisnell of Pittsburgh; two brothers Harry Shaffer, Jr. of Port Orange, Fla.. and Dr. Walter Shaffer and his wife Dana of Pittsburgh; two sisters – in – law, Dorothy Shaffer of Bogart, Ga. and Marie Scarlett of Connellsville; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Arrangements are under the direction of CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, 146 Municipal Rd., Melcroft, PA 15462, where the family will receive friends on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Visitation will continue from 1 until 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 26th in INDIAN CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH, 311 Baptist Church Road, Mill Run, Pa., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. with the Pastor Chris McLaughlin officiating.

Burial will follow in the Indian Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family deeply appreciates and gives thanks for the loving care provided by Olive’s long time personal physicians Dr. Bernard Grumet and Dr. Michael Finikiotis and staff, and caregivers Tia Shawley and Sherry Johnson.
