Marling “Buck” Edenfield
Marling ‘Buck’ Edenfield, 68, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016 with family at his side.
Along with his brother, Wayne Edenfield, he owned and operated the family business, Edenfield Stages, for over 30 years.
Those who met Buck would be unlikely to forget him as he was larger than life in every aspect: his physical presence, his easy smile, his quick wit, and his generous spirit.
Buck’s innate sense of adventure ensured that all outings, from football tailgates to motorcycle rides, were memorable events.
This same sense of adventure fueled with a love of sports lead him to play football at his alma mater, Uniontown Area High School, where he was part of the 1965 WPIAL Championship team. His athletic skills ultimately took him to the University of Wyoming where he became a starting offensive lineman for the Cowboys and where he met his true love, Joanne (Blackmore) Edenfield.
Buck and Joanne returned to Uniontown in 1972. Since then, Buck enjoyed supporting and cheering on his kids, as well as his nieces and nephews, in all sports and endeavors. He always cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he remained a Uniontown Red Raider until the end.
He boating on the Monongahela River, riding his motorcycle, and he never hesitated to command a grill at a picnic or to host a hog roast for family and friends.
Through his business, he took joy in planning others’ vacations and he enjoyed the camaraderie made possible with a dedicated group of drivers and colleagues in local schools and other cities.
Buck enjoyed supporting local youth sports and he was proud of both his hometown and local history.
In 2002, Buck suffered a major stroke. While this limited his ability to participate in many of the hobbies and travels he previously enjoyed, he continued to treasure his time with family and friends. In particular, Buck loved his time with his grandchildren Ian and Bailey, whom he called Scooter and Trinket, as well as his ‘Buddy’ Cameron.
Buck and his wife Joanne have grown a strong family and group of friends who will miss Buck and the joy he brought to their lives.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Josephine Edenfield, his sister, Phyllis Martinosky, and his brother-in-law and best friend, Andrew Hilk.
He is survived by Joanne, his wife of 47 years; his children: son Christopher Edenfield and wife Carla of Uniontown, Pennsylvania and daughter Emily and husband Rick Edwards of Bozeman, Montana; his grandchildren: Ian Edenfield and Bailey Edenfield; his sister JoAnne (Edenfield) Hilk; his brother Wayne Edenfield and his wife Elaine; his niece Laura (Martinosky) Kutek and sons DJ Kutek and Cameron Kutek; his buddy, Donnie Kutek; and his nephews and nieces Mark and Theresa Edenfield, Brian and Tina Hilk, Amy and Brian Shuba, Drew Hilk; and several great nephews and honorary family members who loved ‘Uncle Buck.’
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 2 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 10 until 11 a.m. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday with a private interment for the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cowboy Joe Club at the University of Wyoming or to the Family Caregivers Support Program of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
