Sonja J. “Bub” (Skomra) Domen, R.N.
Sonja J. (Skomra) Domen, 79, of Uniontown Pa., passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Beechwood Court, Lafayette Manor, Uniontown, Pa.
Born on Wednesday, May 26, 1937, she was the only child of Theodore and Mary Skomra of Uniontown.
Her parents, and her husband, Joseph ‘Tom’ Domen, preceded her in death.
She was a lifelong member of Sant Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown.
She is survived by her loving family: daughter Barbara (Domen) Arnold son-in-law Daniel Arnold grandsons: Phillip Arnold and Jonathan Arnold; a devoted friend, Suzanne Scheussler.
Sonja, or ‘Bub’, as she preferred to be called, graduated from Saint John’s High School, Uniontown, and the Saint Francis School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1958.
She worked as a Medical-Surgical Floor Nurse at several hospitals throughout her 32 year career in New Jersey, Maryland, Ohio and finally Pennsylvania, where she retired in 1996 from Uniontown Hospital
She was a steady Nightshift Nurse for all those years and she touched everyone she came in contact with. from training newly graduated nurses to caring for the sick and comforting the dying, she held herself and others in her profession to the highest ethical principles of nursing.
Upon retirement, Bub’s life revolved around her family. She cared for both her grandsons from infancy to their teen years, never missing a school activity or accomplishment in their lives.
She enjoyed sewing, doing crafts, cooking Polish foods, celebrating holidays and baking delicious cookies.
She lived an unpretentious life based upon simple values of a deep love of God and family and kindness to others.
She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.
A special heartfelt thanks also goes out to the staff of Beechwood Court and also Amedisys Hospice. Their selfless dedication to providing care and maintaining the dignity of life till its final end is unparalleled.
Friends will be received at the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pa., today, November 28, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday morning, November 29, 2016 until 11 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
The Funeral Mass will be said at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, Pa.
Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery Uniontown, Pa.
