Clifford Earl “Cliff” Victor
Clifford Earl Victor, age 89, Haydentown, Pa., passed away at Hillside Manor on Thursday, October 13, 2016 with his loving wife by his side.
He was born in Haydentown, Pa., on Thursday, January 6, 1927 son of Otho Victor and Carrie (Miller) Victor Richardson and was a lifelong resident of the area.
Clifford was employed by United States Steel at the Robena Mine andat the Dilworth Mine prior to his retirement.
Cliff was an outstanding athlete and attended West Virginia Univrsity on a basketball scholarship prior to serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and upon return from his service, was a Pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates Farm League in Bradenton, Florida.
He was a Lifetime Member of Hutchnison Sportsmen’s Club, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood. Pa.
In years past, he was a Figure Caller at local square dances.
Wherever he went, Cliff never met a stranger and it was said that if he didn’t tease you, he must not have liked you.
He loved his Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman whose skills were envied by those who knew him.
Cliff also was an amazing gardener.
His parents and the following siblings preceded him in death: Mildred Mayhle, Madonna Carr, Virginia Cramer, Elsie Capanna, Edwin Victor, Iona Mullen, Grace Kluska, Francis Grgetich, and William Victor.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Wanda ‘Gail’ Victor; son, Harry ‘Butch’ Victor (Colleen) of Hopwood, Pa.; daughters: Michelle ‘Shelley’ Taylor (Keith) of Ohiopyle, Pa., and Lori Victor of Smithfield, Pa.; grandchildren: Chris Taylor (Amy) of Brea, California, Clay Taylor (Rebecca) of Uniontown, Pa., Derek Victor (Katie) of Dawson, Pa., and Ben Victor of Smithfield, Pa.; great grandchildren: Aubrey Taylor, Brayden Taylor, Ronan Victor, Clara Taylor, and Luke Victor; brother, John Robert ‘Bob’ Victor of Amherst, Ohio; and many special nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to Hillside Manor, as well as to the ViaQuest team for their amazing care during this difficult time.
The family will greet friends and family in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m and Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 10 until 11 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kenneth Walls officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa
