James S. “Jim” Calhoun, United States Navy Veteran
James S. ‘Jim’ Calhoun age 75, of Uniontown, Pa. passed away on Sunday morning, October 23, 2016 in the UPMC Shady Side Hospital, Pittsburgh
He was born February 18, 1941 in Brownsville, Pa. the son of the late Andrew Calhoun and Marie (Bowers) Calhoun.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers John, Daniel, Chester, Edwin, Benjamin, Robert and Walter; sisters Inez, Phyllis, Connie, Jennie.
Jim was a member of Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church.
He was United States Veteran serving in the Navy on the USS James C. Owens DD-776 (1960-1963).
He was a 1959 graduate of the former South Union High School
He retired from the Uniontown Newspapers.
He was a life member of the following groups: the Amvets Post 103, Hopwood, the Elks Lodge #370 Uniontown, The Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 15040, and the USS James C. Owens Association.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 51, Independent Slovak Citizens Club, and the Polish Club.
For many years he coached in the Uniontown Catholic Football League, coached at Bailey Park for the Fireman’s baseball team, and was a coach for the Saint Mary’s basketball team in the CYO League.
For the past 13 years Jim was a dedicated employee of the Kezmarsky Funeral Home where he was considered family by all of his friends that will remember him forever.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Jacqueline (Yourich) Calhoun. Jim was so proud that he and Jackie would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 5, 2016.
He is also survived by his son, David Calhoun and wife Stephanie of Tampa, Florida; his daughter, Taryn Calhoun of Uniontown; grand children: John and Jacqueline Calhoun of Tampa, Florida and Jacqueline and Chase Matthews of Uniontown; many loving nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday morning until 9:30 a.m. when Parting Prayers will be said followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in the Mount Macrina Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood.
A Parish Wake Service will be held in funeral home Tuesday at 3:00.
