Remaining Bullskin roads repaired by PennDOT
The state Department of Transportation reopened the final two roads impacted by Sunday’s flooding in the Connellsville and Bullskin Township areas on Friday.
Valerie Petersen, PennDOT spokeswoman, said Breakiron Road is fully open to traffic, and Breakneck road is open to local traffic, emergency vehicles and school buses only. She noted the roads were repaired ahead of schedule.
Petersen said PennDOT committed to getting the 13 bridges and 13 roads affected by flooding open so that Connellsville area students could return to classes Tuesday.
Emergency contracts were utilized to get contractors working on Monday to repair some of the 13 structures that were affected. Other contracts were put together to get the remaining repairs started and to make permanent repairs to the temporary ones, she said.
As the flooding occurred, maintenance PennDOT maintenance crews cleared roadways, filled eroded ditches and removed debris.
Petersen said PennDOT crews placed 2,262.57 tons of stone, used more than 700 tons of millings, moved 100 barriers weighing more than one ton each and personnel logged 3,150 hours responding to flooding.
