A Monessen man was arraigned Wednesday morning after he allegedly attacked his cousin with a crowbar and robbed him Monday.

A witness told police that Dwayne Grogan, 45, “came out of nowhere” and started arguing with Allen Duncan outside his Knox Avenue home, according to the affidavit of probable cause filed in the case.

The witness said Duncan was trying to go inside when Grogan hit him in the head with a crowbar. When the alleged victim fell to the ground, Grogan allegedly went through his pockets and took out his wallet, cash and a check he was holding for him before leaving the scene.

Duncan was unconscious for about one minute, according to the affidavit. He went inside and locked himself in. The witness called 911 and entered through a window. When police arrived, Duncan was holding a towel to a deep laceration on his head. Police said he looked at them, but did not respond. His mother told police he seemed to be having trouble hearing.

He was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Police attempted to locate Grogan at his mother’s house later that day, but could not locate him. They filed a warrant for his arrest early Wednesday, according to court documents.

He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, robbery and theft.

Grogan was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Joseph A. Dalfonso and lodged in Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Sept. 23 before Dalfonso.
