Albert R. Barnes Sr., age 88, a resident of Hillside Manor, Uniontown, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016.

He was born Sunday, September 16, 1928 the son of Jessie (Provance) Barnes and William Barnes.

Albert graduated from Waynesburg College. During college, he worked at the A&P grocery store in Masontown, Pa.

He then taught school at Redstone High School in Republic, Pa.

He went on to be a successful home builder and business man with numerous businesses in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Florida.

Albert was a member of the Marine Corps League. He took great pride in his service as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was a member of Masonic Valley Lodge No. 459 in Masontown, Pa., was a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite and active in the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon of North America.

Albert loved to travel and enjoyed many years of travel at home and abroad. He especially liked taking cruises and traveling the country with his Airstream and Fifth Wheel trailers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Amidee Barnes, William Barnes, James Edward Barnes, Gerald Barnes, John ‘Jack’ Barnes; and one sister, Rebecca Barnes Blaker. Also predeceased by one granddaughter, Beth Brozik.

He is survived by one sister, Betty Barnes Obradovich; his children: Kathleen Barnes Cowan (Douglas), Albert R. Barnes Jr. (Dottie), John Edward Barnes, Brenda Barnes Marunyak, Amy R. Barnes and Meg Ryan Barnes In addition, Albert is survived by his grandchildren: John Brozik, Tara Keith, Derek Barnes, Alisa Barnes Lockett, Alison Price, Eric Weygandt, Anthony Weygandt and Isabella Weygandt; eight great grandchildren: Emily, Alayna, Triston, Ivory, Averi, Anthony, Lauryn and Madison; and great-great grand children: Isaac, Sunny and Ash. He had many great friends who will dearly miss him.

He was a generous and loving father and family member and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Heaven’s gates opened wide to received this tower of a man.
