Liquor license transfer approved
NORTH UNION TWP. — A township gas station is one step closer to selling beer and wine to customers.
During their regular Tuesday meeting, supervisors approved the liquor license transfer from a property in Dunbar Township to the Sheetz station on Pittsburgh Road.
Attorney Paul Namey appeared before the supervisors on behalf of Sheetz, noting that the sales of beer and wine would be a convenience to customers. There are 21 other Sheetz locations in Pennsylvania that sell alcohol, eight of which have been doing so since 2005. Five other locations will soon sell alcohol pending renovations to do so, Namey said.
Namey said limited work would need done to the current location. The soda cave would be retro-fitted to the beer cave, where it would be sold chilled.
Extensive signage would be posted and employees would be trained in accordance with the state Liquor Control Board. Photo ID would be required for every purchase.
Hours for purchasing the alcohol would vary, as would the price and variety of that in stock.
In other news, supervisors:
n Reminded residents that it is their responsibility to clean streams and creeks on their property. While it might not impact homeowners directly, it might impact the water level and quality, and the people around it, further downstream, they said.
n Reminded residents of the electronic waste recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 26, at the Fayette County Fairgrounds.
n Noted that tree trimming would commence on township streets before paving projects would begin.
n Asked that residents pay the annual $12 fee for recycling that was mailed out. Only 55 percent of residents have paid, according to supervisor Rob Tupta. He noted that it would be time consuming to go through magistrates for those who don’t pay.
