Donald E. Keener Sr.

Donald E. Keener Sr., 89, McClellandtown, Pa., died at 12:35 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Uniontown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Uniontown, Pa.

He was born July 17, 1928 in High House, Fayette County, Pa., son of the late William and Lucy (Echard) Keener.

Mr. Keener served with the United States Army during World War II

He retired after 35 years as a Maintenance Foreman for the U. S. Steel Corporation.

He served as an Elder at the Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church and as Master of Valley Lodge No. 459 F. & A. M., Masontown, Pa., in 1992. In addition, Mr. Keener’s Masonic membership includes the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection, Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh, and Syria Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S.

He was a past President of the Circle Club and the Golden Agers, both in Uniontown and the U. S. Steel Pensioneers.

Mr. Keener was a long time member of the McClellandtown Volunteer Fire Department.

He always enjoyed talking with friends and strangers alike and accepted any mechanical puzzle as a challenge.

On March 14, 1952, he married his wife of 65 years, Mary Catherine Palencher, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons: Donald E. Keener Jr. and his wife Cindy of Masontown, Pa., Scott A. Keener of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jeffrey A. Keener and his wife Kristin, McClellandtown; three grandchildren: Jessica Keener Bucceri and her husband Brian, Amanda Keener Mayer and her husband Ryan, and Jeffrey Keener Jr. and his wife, Danielle; four great grandchildren: Jacob Bucceri, Philip Bucceri, Addison Mayer and Jax Keener; brother, Nelson Keener and his wife Diana, Indianapolis, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Carrie Keener; several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother William Keener; a sister and her husband, Delores and Floyd Barnes.

The Keener Family would like to extend their appreciation to the Uniontown Hospital, Amedisys Hospice Care, Uniontown Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, and to the Rev. F. Lee McDermott for their kindness and professional care.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. today in YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME (724.966.5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa., where the Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017. The Rev. F. Lee McDermott will officiate.

Interment will follow at Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown, with military honors accorded by the United States Army and Carmichaels Honor Guard.

Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A. M. will conduct Masonic Services in the funeral home today at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church, 23 Montview St., Uniontown, PA 15401.
