Man charged with assaulting mother in German Township
A German Township man allegedly assaulted his mother and spit on an officer Saturday night.
Carl Jordan Friend, 22, of 48 S-T Drive, is charged with aggravated harassment by prisoner, simple assault, resisting arrest and two counts of disorderly conduct.
Friend was intoxicated when police arrived at about 8 p.m. and refused to listen to police, according to court documents.
His mother, Lydia Markle, told police he pushed and shoved her multiple times while destroying her property and grabbed her by the neck “causing her extreme fear since it was done in a threatening and menacing manner,” police wrote in the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case.
He allegedly screamed outside and fell to the ground while in police custody. Patrolman Greg Garlock had to pick him up off the ground to put him in the police cruiser, he wrote in the affidavit.
Friend allegedly continued to struggle and spit on German Township Police Chief David Hromada, covering his arm in saliva. Neighbors were alarmed by Friend’s behavior outside, police said.
He continued screaming, yelling and “acting violently” in a holding cell, police said.
Friend also has an active warrant out of Allegheny County, according to court documents.
He is lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $7,500 bond.
