William G. Bakewell
William G. “Bill” Bakewell, age 93, of Finksburg, Maryland and formerly of Alicia, Pennsylvania died peacefully on Monday. December 11, 2017.
He was born Tuesday, September 16, 1924 in West Brownsville, Pa., son of the late John Albert and Mary Ellen (Weiss) Bakewell.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth “Bib” (Seese) Bakewell; his son Ronald Bakewell who was killed in action during the Vietnam War; two brothers and a sister, John Albert Bakewell II, Harold Bakewell, and Margaret “Peg” Bakewell.
He was a Veteran of World War II and served his country honorably with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre and was a crew member of the USS Yorktown CV-10 He was a member of the American Legion Post 295 in Brownsville, Pa., and the former Veterans of Foreign Wars in Brownsville, Pa. Bill always made sure there was a United States Flag flying in his yard.
He enjoyed trap shooting and visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved to watch Pittsburgh Steelers football.
Bill is survived by his son, Kenneth E. Bakewell of Finksburg, Maryland and Patricia Rorden of Cave Junction Oregon who was like a daughter to him; two grandchildren: Leigh Chapman and husband Andy, Jackson Ronald William Bakewell; two great-grandchildren: Cole Chapman and Emma Chapman; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday until from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. when a Funeral Service will be held with Rev. Louis Piel officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, where Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Fayette County Vietnam Veterans Association.
