North Belle Vernon’s 2018 budget will not include a tax hike
Residents of North Belle Vernon won’t be facing a tax increase in 2018.
Council voted this week to approve an $839,996 budget and keeping real estate tax at 29 mills. Council President Brett Berish projected that the borough will have a surplus of $51,808 after $788,188 in total general fund expenditures.
“Our budget is a little less that what we approved last year,” said Berish, “but it is more than adequate for what we need to do in 2018. We are appreciative of all that Barbara Day, Lisa Pollock and Mary Lou Berish have done to help us plan the budget.”
He added that North Belle Vernon has not raised taxes the past five years.
Also during the meeting, the council announced that a full-time work agreement has been completed for Walter Knapp, who serves as the borough’s superintendent of streets. Outgoing council member Mark Frederick was also thanked for his service to the borough. Frederick will continue to serve as a special advisor for the Blind Lane project.
Council will hold a reorganization meeting on Jan. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the municipal building.
