State police investigate a fatal crash that left a 69-year-old Lemont Furnace woman dead Thursday afternoon when her car was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Starlite Road and Connellsville Street. Police identified the woman as Cheryl Beatty.

A 69-year-old woman was killed after her car was struck by a pickup truck at a Lemont Furnace intersection at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

State police identified the woman as Cheryl Beatty of Lemont Furnace.

Her Kia Amanti was struck on the driver’s side by a truck carrying a trailer when she drove through a stop sign on Starlite Road at its intersection with Connellsville Street near Geary Veterinary Services, according to state police.

The truck, driven by William King, 51, of Mount Pleasant, flipped onto its side in the impact. Neither King nor his passenger were injured, police said. The passenger was identified only as King’s relative.

State police said Beatty was wearing a seat belt. Speed was not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Beatty was the third person to be killed in a car accident in Fayette County in eight days.
