A vacant single-story house was ravaged by an early morning fire Tuesday along the 200 block of Riverview Avenue in Fallowfield Township.

“It was pretty much burnt when people found it and called it in,” said Fallowfield Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Anthony Fleming about the blaze discovered at 2:39 a.m. “A neighbor called it in.”

According to a posting by Charleroi Fire Department on Facebook, there were fears of possible entrapment and reports that up to five people were in the home.

However, according to the Charleroi posting, “It was soon found that no one was home when the fire broke out.”

“The neighbors weren’t sure if anyone lived there,” Fleming said.

Approximately 40 firefighters responded from Fallowfield, Charleroi, North Charleroi, Stockdale, Valley Inn and Washington Township volunteer departments.

Charleroi officials said one purpose was to set up a water supply to the scene of the fire, in a remote area near Route 88 and North Charleroi.

Fleming said crews remained on the scene for a couple hours after the fire was discovered. There were no injuries and no other structures were affected.

A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is investigating to determine what caused the blaze.
