Michael George “Mike” Nahaj
Michael George Nahaj, Uniontown, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the age of 84.
He was born January 2, 1933 in Latrobe, Pa., to Michael J. Nahaj and Anna (Pavlovcak) Nahaj.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Donna Marie (Savage) Nahaj; and his parents.
He is survived by his three children: Michael G. Nahaj Jr. of Great Mills, Maryland, Bryan A. Nahaj of Uniontown, Pa., Lisa M. Guyer and husband Travis of New Enterprise, Pa.; grand children: Steven Michael Nahaj, Kelly Lynn Nahaj; great granddaughter, Brea Marie; siblings: Eugene Nahaj (Gloria), Margaret Goncus, Ann Tompkins, Mary Matyas (David), Loretta Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
He attended Saint Mary’s Parochial School and North Union High School, and was member of Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church.
In 1950, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Texas and New Mexico. He was a Senior Aircraft Instrument Mechanic and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant
After his Honorable Discharge in 1954, Michael returned home and was employed by Texas Eastern.
He continued his education taking correspondence classes for appliance and television repair at night while working and raising a family.
He was employed at Service Radio in Uniontown, Pa., as an Appliance Repairman for many years.
Later, he was the Custodian at Calvary United Methodist Church in Uniontown until retirement.
Mike loved electronics, especially computers, and building various projects. He enjoyed amateur radio, operating call sign WB3DOG, and became proficient at high speed Morse Code communicating with other operators all over the world before there was an internet.
He also enjoyed weather observation and devising a system to pick winning lottery numbers (never quite got that one to work).
Mike was quite the handyman and was always willing to help family and friends when something broke. It was often said that he could fix anything.
Friends will be received at STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown Pa., Friday, July 7, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, July 8, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
A Blessing Service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Father Peter L. Peretti officiating followed by Military Honors accorded by the George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
Private interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa
