Sally S. Barnes
Sally S. Barnes, 90, of Wake Forest, North Carolina (formerly of Uniontown, Pa.) died at her home on Sunday, June 25th surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 4, 1927 in Greensburg, Pa., Sally was the daughter of John and Margaret (Howell) Sterrett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her sister Peggy Jo (1944), and by her loving husband Robert (Bob) E. Barnes in 2004.
Sally is survived by her daughter Sandi Lee Barnes of Apex, N.C.; son R. Scott (wife Michele) Barnes; granddaughter Olivia Anne Barnes (fiancé Matthew Ryan); and grandson R. Evan Martin Barnes, all of Wake Forest, N.C. She is also survived by her sister Janie S. (husband Dick) Bowen of White Oak, Pa.; niece Jodi Baldridge, and nephew Richard Bowen, along with numerous cousins and in-laws.
After graduating from Connellsville High School in 1945, Sally attended Durbin’s Secretarial School and was then employed by West Penn Railways and West Penn Power for 17 years.
She and Bob married in 1962 and resided in Uniontown. After Bob’s death, she and daughter Sandi moved to Raleigh, N.C. to be closer to her son Scott and his family.
Sally was a long-time member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Asbury Fellowship Class in Uniontown, as well as a member of the Margaret E. Caven Shrine No. 42, WSJ, Uniontown, Pa., where she served as the Watchman of Shepherds from 1987-1988. She was also an associate member of Wakefield United Methodist Church in Raleigh, N.C.
Sally enjoyed sewing and was, for many years, a participant in the hobby group at Asbury Church. She adored her grandchildren and her granddogs.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 at Asbury UMC, 20 Dunbar St, Uniontown, Pa. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a service of rememberance at 11:30 a.m. led by Pastor Don Kephart.
Interment at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown will immediately follow the service at the church.
