A suspected drug dealer was arrested at a North Union Township gas station while traveling from Maryland to Kentucky, state police said.

Jacob Lawrence, 29, of Baltimore, Maryland is charged with possession with intent to deliver, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and two counts of driving under the influence.

State police were called to Speedway gas station at 2315 University Dr. at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to check on Lawrence, who was reportedly stumbling. Police said he showed signs of impairment and his vehicle smelled like marijuana.

Police conducted a search of the vehicle and reported finding a briefcase containing $62,857 in cash, a duffel bag containing a smoking device, a jar containing suspected marijuana buds and a bag containing vials of suspected concentrated THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana. Police also said they found two suspected marijuana cigarettes, 14 pills and two cellphones in the vehicle. Troopers said they found $1,166 in cash on his person.

Lawrence was arraigned Thursday morning before on-call Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. Shimshock, who set bail at $100,000. He is lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of bond.
