Man who drove into a Connellsville house and walked naked from the scene pleads guilty

The North Huntingdon man charged with driving into a Connellsville house, walking away from the scene naked and assaulting a police officer pleaded guilty in exchange for probation and mental health court.
Last week, Darren R. Warner, 31, entered a plea in Fayette County Court to charges of simple assault, indecent exposure, institutional vandalism, disorderly conduct, open lewdness, harassment, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
As part of his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a charge of aggravated assault and recommended a sentence of three years’ probation plus entry in the Fayette County Mental Health Court.
Warner crashed a 2004 Hyundai sport utility vehicle into the basement of a house at 619 Blackstone Ave. early Jan. 13. The vehicle caught fire, igniting the house. Officials said the fire spread quickly but was contained.
Trooper Nicholas Saylor was on routine patrol when he spotted the naked man on Route 119. Saylor rolled down the window to question Warner and called for backup. Warner reached through the window and grabbed the radio, saying, “You need to speak to God.”
Saylor was attempting to take the man into custody when Warner allegedly punched the trooper in the head, splattering blood throughout the cruiser, damaging his shirt and jacket and breaking the radio.
He remains lodged in the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bond with his sentencing scheduled for July 19 before Senior Judge Conrad Capuzzi.
