Fred William Kolonsky

Fred William Kolonsky, 87, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully, Wednesday July 12, 2017 at Hillside Manor in Uniontown, Pa. He was born March 15, 1930 in Edenborn, Pa., the son of the late Fred and Mary (Schifko) Kolonsky.

Fred worked at first with Poundstone Plasterers and then with various construction companies where he ran heavy equipment.

Fred then joined United States Steel Maple Creek Mine in 1959 where he ran heavy equipment at the Ginger Hill facility until his retirement in 1993.

Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved to travel and dine out with family and friends.

He enjoyed helping out on his brother Charles’ farm in Footedale, Pa. He loved to go ‘touring’ with his brothers Frank and Charles to visit farms in the tri-state area to see how other farmers operated. He had a passion for Farmall and John Deere tractors.

Fred was deeply grieved by the recent loss of his loving wife of 67 years, Wanda Lee Cougherour who passed away June 25, 2017.

In addition to his wife, Fred was predeceased by his brother Charles Kalonsky in 2005.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: David Kolonsky and his wife Judith of Upper Middletown, Pa., and Kristy Anderson and her husband Dennis of West Newton, Pa.; grandchildren: Jarriet Valentine and wife Nicole, Kara Gais and husband James, Kevin Kolonsky and wife Jill, Ashlie Baker and husband Brady, and Alan Kolonsky; great grand-children: Gabrielle Valentine, Caden Valentine, Cameron Gais, Connor Gais and Ty Kolonsky and loving pet Findlay.

Fred is also survived by his brother Frank and wife Frances Kolonsky of Uniontown and a sister Betty Jean (Kolonsky) Miller of Springs, Texas.

Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 680 Cherry Tree Lane, Uniontown, Pa. on Friday from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday until 9:45 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.

This will be followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Uniontown, Pa. with Pastor Kevin Anderson officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hillside Manor and Amedisys Hospice of Pennsylvania for their love and kindness showed to Fred and his family during these past few months.
