A man who was stopped for driving an all-terrain vehicle under the influence accidentally deployed a Taser while trying to disarm a trooper in Bullskin Township, police said.

James Albert Eicher, 40, of Normalville is charged with disarming law enforcement officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Police said Eicher was driving an ATV on Route 982 near Gault School Road at about 3 a.m. Tuesday while under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance. Eicher allegedly resisted arrest, and a trooper deployed a Taser on him. Police said Eicher tried to grab the stun gun from the trooper, and caused it to deploy.

Eicher was eventually taken into custody. Police said he was found with a crack pipe in his pocket.

He is lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $7,500 bond.
