Berwyn S. Detweiler Jr., 90, Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Hillside Manor.

He was born October 14, 1926 in Uniontown, son of the late Berwyn S. Sr. and Mary Lyndall Jamison Detweiler.

Berwyn graduated from Uniontown High School in 1944 and from Potomac State with a degree in Business.

He was a veteran of World War II proudly serving in the United States Army.

He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he served for many years as head usher and was a member of the choir.

He was a member of the Laurel Lodge No. 651 F. & A.M., Uniontown Lodge of Perfection, Pittsburgh Consistory, and the Syria Shrine Caravan No. 9.

His father was an early pioneer in the car business in Fayette County and Berwyn joined his father spending 70 years in the family-owned business. He owned and operated Berwyn S. Detweiler Studebaker, later know as, Berwyn S. Detweiler Pontiac for many years. Many people will miss seeing him sitting outside the garage reading the newspaper or doing a crossword puzzle.

He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and auto racing, playing cards, and also enjoyed a beer every now and then.

Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings Phil Detweiler, Marilyn Penney and Nelson Detweiler; grandchildren Bryan Scott Detweiler and Abbe McCann.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois (Hall) Detweiler; four children: B. Scott (Barbara) Detweiler, Mark A. (Anne) Detweiler, Lori A. Detweiler and Frank Kurtik all of Uniontown, and Malinda (James) McCann of Horseheads, New York; his grand children: Jarred (Ashli) Detweiler of Bethel Park, Pa, Jayme (Ryan) Crowell of Canfield, Ohio, Kathryn McCann of Henrico, Virginia, Dayne Detweiler of Houston, Texas, and Corey McCann of Greenville, South Carolina. He leaves behind one great grandson, Collins Detweiler, and a great granddaughter arriving soon. He is survived by two brothers: Herb (Judy) Detweiler of Virginia and Alan (Sandra) Detweiler of Uniontown. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown Pennsylvania where friends will be received today, July 27, from 3 to 8 p.m.

Viewing will continue on Friday, July 28, 2017 in the Smith Chapel at Asbury United Methodist Church from 10 until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Rev. Donald W. Kephart officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded at graveside by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.

A Masonic Service will be conducted in the funeral home by Laurel Lodge No. 651 F. & A.M. today at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church 20 Dunbar Street, Uniontown, PA 15401.

The family gives special thanks to Fayette Home Care and Hospice, especially Diane Kutzer, and Hillside Manor for their help and care.
