By The 1 min read

A Charleroi man was charged with theft and vandalism after he allegedly took food from the freezer of the Hampton Inn in Rostraver Township, and then stole a truck.

Township police said Jesse James Donaldson, 30, went into the kitchen of the hotel on Friday, and took $47.71 in food from the freezer, and then headed to the state Department of Transportation shed on Pricedale Road, where he scaled a fence and stole a truck.

Police were called when PennDOT workers found the gate damaged. Donaldson used the truck he took to ram through it, according to court paperwork.

Charleroi police apprehended Donaldson in the stolen vehicle, according to Rostraver Township Officer Martin Palla.

Donaldson was charged with theft by unlawful taking, criminal trespass and institutional vandalism.

He was committed to Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond, and will have a preliminary hearing Aug. 4 before Magisterial District Judge Charles Christner.
