A West Virginia man was charged Friday for allegedly damaging Nemacolin Volunteer Fire Department property in Greene County in May.

James Michael Casper, 26, of Core, West Virginia, is charged with institutional vandalism of adjacent ground and criminal mischief.

Firefighters reported to state police May 19 that someone damaged a boulder and “tore up” the grass on the hillside of the fire department property. Surveillance footage captured the driver of a light-colored Jeep running over the boulder and driving through the grass. The vehicle was later found in Ronco in Fayette County, according to court documents.

Police said Casper admitted to causing the damage. Firefighters told police it would take $1,000 to repair the property.
