Harry Brenton “Bud” Newman
Harry Brenton ‘Bud’ Newman, 85, Washington Illinois went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 9:04 a.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 8, 1931 to Samuel and Lida Newman in Searights, Pennsylvania.
He knew what it was like to work hard growing up on a farm in Pennsylvania and working in the coal mines until joining the service where he proudly honored his country as an Army Medic in Korea.
He married Janet Ann Whaley in Winchester, Virginia when he returned in 1955.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Sharon (Brian) Yagoda and Lori (William) Salmi, and son, Mark (Annie); grandchildren: Shayna, Megan and Nathan Yagoda, Jud, Jaeger and Jared Newman, Brianna and Zachary Salmi; as well as his sister, Luella (Ken) Whaley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Samuel Newman Jr.
Bud earned a Mechanical Engineering Degree from West Virginia University in 1959 and began a 35 year career at Caterpillar. He worked as a Research Engineer in transmission development and retired as a Supervising Engineer in chemical products development with hose and coupling responsibility.
He was a long-time member of Sunnyland Christian Church serving as Sunday School teacher, youth leader, choir member, Elder, Trustee, Board member.
He enjoyed his retirement by having breakfast with friends, organizing extended family vacations, fishing, and using his engineering skills to refurbish tractors, wiring and plumbing his children’s homes and fixing anything that didn’t work. His family was always the center of his world.
The family extends a special thank you to the exceptionally caring staff at OSF St. Francis Medical Center ICU.
A visitation was held Monday, June 19th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at DEITERS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 2075 Washington Road, Washington, IL 61571 (309.745.5999).
Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home today, Tuesday, June 20th, at 10:00 a.m. and he will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Sunnyland Christian Church may be made.
