A former New Eagle man who allegedly fled to New York state following a Valentine’s Day rape is back in Washington County.

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s office went to New York this week to pick up Jason Orin Stevens, 43, who was arraigned late Thursday night before Magisterial District Judge Gary Havelka in Burgettstown on charges of rape, burglary, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, recklessly endangering another person, false imprisonment and simple assault.

Stevens allegedly broke into a Monongahela home in the early hours of Feb. 14, took a woman at knifepoint from the bed she was sharing with one of her young children and raped her in the livingroom of her home. Stevens allegedly took the woman’s cellphone and told her he would kill her and her child if she reported the incident to police.

A warrant for Stevens’ arrest was issued by Magisterial District Judge Mark Wilson and Stevens was found Feb. 22 in Skaneateles by New York State Police who had received a tip that he could be found at a residence there.

A week ago Friday Stevens waived his right to extradition before Onondaga County, New York, Judge Robert Bauer.

Stevens was held at the Onondaga County Justice Center until Washington County deputies were able to transport him back to Pennsylvania.

Stevens is currently lodged in the Washington County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond. He faces a preliminary hearing before Wilson March 16.
