Charles “Cork” “Charlie” Shimko
Charles (‘Cork and ‘Charlie’) Shimko, 67, of Hammond Indiana and formerly of Uniontown, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at the William J. Riley Memorial Residence, Munster, Indiana on Thursday, February 23, 2017.
Charles was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on August 29, 1949 to Andrew L. and Betty L. Shimko.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.
He was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed spending time with his friends at The Anchor Inn and at the Flat Rock Tap. He also enjoyed watching his beloved Crimson Tide and cheering for anyone playing against the Chicago Bears.
Most of his time spent in Indiana, he was employed through Munster Steel.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Andrew L. Shimko Sr.; his mother, Betty L. (McClelland) Shimko; and an infant brother, Jonathan Shimko.
Charles is survived by his brothers: Andrew L. Shimko Jr. and wife Carol and Jeffrey Shimko and wife Jeanne; his sisters: Cheryl (Shimko) Hladinec and husband Frank, Kimberly (Shimko) Morrison and husband Keith, Robin Shimko; and his longtime and faithful cat, Jasper. He will be greatly missed by nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and countless friends.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Community Hospital and the William J. Riley Memorial Residence for their love and extensive care during his final weeks.
The family also sends an extra special thank you to his long time best friend Darryl who took care of him for many years and during his illness.
Charles’ remains are being handled by the CASTLE HILL FUNERAL HOME, Dyer, Indiana, and are being shipped back home to be with family once again in Uniontown.
